Stuttgart – Once again the lights go out in the state capital: Due to a power outage, people in parts of Stuttgart were left in the dark for some time on Monday evening. It was not the first time in recent weeks.

Stuttgart Netze confirmed the outage on Thursday evening via Twitter: “Unfortunately, there are currently power supply interruptions in Stuttgart in the postcode area 70565, 70563,” it said in a message on the short message service at around 5.30 pm. The districts of Dürrlewang, Fasanenhof, Möhringen, Rohr and Vaihingen are affected. They are working at full speed on the fault clearance.

There have been repeated power cuts in the Stuttgart region recently. About a week ago, the power grid in the north of Stuttgart failed. According to Stuttgart Netze, the reason for the outage was a cable fault.

Power outages are becoming more frequent

Shortly before Christmas, many households in parts of Stuttgart’s south, but also in the east and in Degerloch, had to manage without electricity after lunch and in the evening. The gaps in supply lasted 48 and 40 minutes until the lights came back on. On 1 January 2022, the fault crews from Stuttgart Netze had to go out again and several times.

But even if the power cuts at the beginning of 2022 gave a different impression, an increase could “not be observed” recently, according to a spokesperson for the grid operator, which belongs to Stadtwerke Stuttgart (74.9 per cent) and Netze BW (25.1 per cent).

In December 2021, the utility reported four outages, in November three, in October four, in September one. As a rule, “cable faults” are named as the cause, which lead to a short circuit that then has to be bypassed.
